Your most frequently asked questions / problems
Varicose veins represent a problem in the venous system. They are enlarged, swollen and bulged veins. Affected veins become bluish or purple in colour. This condition affects 70% of all men and 50% of all women. Occurrence rate grows with age. It is linked to heredity as it is basically a hereditary dysfunction of collagen that forms the structure of veins. Veins have leaflet valves that prevent blood from flowing backwards. When veins are varicose, they work improperly causing blood clotting and increased vein pressure. Varicose veins lead to leg swelling and further enlargement of veins.
Prevention is a mission impossible as varicose veins are genetically predisposed. As soon as first symptoms like aching or sore legs occur the treatment should commence. Varicose veins are a major aesthetics issue, but they may also cause more serious condition, for instance: lymphatic insufficiency, vein insufficiency, skin disease and ankle ulcers. A timely treatment of your veins will ensure best results and you will benefit from both aesthetic and health effect of the surgery. Delaying the surgery will do you no good.
They are basically swollen veins of the lower part of anus and rectum. Men are more likely to have them than women. 50% of population experience them. Key factors that may cause hemorrhoids include sedentary jobs, pregnancy, constipation, family history etc.
Arthritis, commonly referred to as rheumatism, is a type of degenerative joint disease. It is the most common joint condition. It affects a gradually growing number of people in younger age groups and its occurrence has been on the rise recently. Arthritis may first occur at the age of 30 and the disease becomes more common with age. 60% of people aged 40 to 65 have shown arthritis. There are 70% of people aged 65 and more with a type of arthritics. Arthritis mostly affects hip and knee. However, it affects other joints too-spine, shoulder, elbow, ankle, finger joints etc. In advanced arthritis, symptoms may include pain during physical activity, stiffness, swelling and difficulty moving the affected limbs.
Unlike infection arthritis, arthritis is not caused by an inflammation. It involves damaged joint cartilage and bones due to natural wear and tear. Arthritis is acquired from daily wear and tear of joints as we lead normal lives and engage in daily activities. Our body constantly regenerates the cartilage. Yet, regeneration capability goes down with age, with onset at the age of 40. The cartilage gets thinner and thinner, resulting in friction between the bones. Moving the bones and joints results in pain and range of motion becomes more and more limited. Tissue adjacent to joints and bones-muscles and ligaments-is affected too as those get weaker. This results in deteriorating of the condition and patients are caught in a vicious circle. Bone growths begin to occur, and the joints becomes gradually deformed.
A hernia is a condition in which an organ is abnormally displaced from its normal location, usually through weakened areas in the abdominal wall. It is often only apparent with increased intra-abdominal pressure, such as coughing, lifting heavy objects or physical strain, but can also be visible and palpable under the skin.
General anaesthesia enables painful surgical or diagnostic procedures. Anaesthesia is characterized by not feeling pain throughout the body and total unconscious state. From the beginning to the end of general anaesthesia, the patient is in a state similar to a peaceful sleep. After preparation – premedication either as injection or oral administration – general anaesthesia usually starts by administering anaesthetic to the vein, which is sufficient for short interventions.
During a major surgery, intravenous administration of the anaesthetic is repeated, or anaesthetic gas is used. The anaesthetic agent together with oxygen are introduced either into a tight-fitting face mask or a special tube which is inserted into the trachea after the patient is put to sleep.
