Physiotherapy, rehabilitation

Physiotherapy is a holistic branch of medicine focusing on prevention, diagnosing and treatment of physical disabilities and movement disorders. It utilizes movement and exercise techniques to enhance the function of other systems on the body.  If your physical functions are impaired, your range of movement is reduced because you have an injury, an illness, an inborn condition or you are aging, this is when physiotherapy comes in with its techniques.

Shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy is a treatment method that utilizes mechanical stress, which is applied to affected areas of the body. It is one of the most effective and up-to-date techniques to treat painful conditions of musculoskeletal system.

 Its indications include:

  • epicondylitis (tennis elbow, golfer’s elbow), other pain problems in elbow
  • tendinopathies, tendon inflammations
  • bursitis in joints, joint calcification
  • Achilles tendon inflammation, biceps tendon inflammation to promote healing
  • shoulder joints pain, shoulder conditions after surgery
  • joint arthritis (hip, knee, shoulder, elbow)
  • knee pain due to strain, meniscus damage
  • acute and chronic pain in heel, heel spurs
  • other bone growths: elbow spurs, bunions, hammer toes,
  • pain in femoral head
  • intervertebral disc injuries
  • every time when mobility is reduced

Cosmetic reasons for shockwave therapy

Shockwave therapy stimulates collagen production

  • Fibrous cellulite: inside of the thighs
  • Fibrous cellulite: outside of the thighs
  • Cellulitis on the buttocks
  • Mixed cellulite
  • Thick skin is some regions
  • Firming of the buttocks
  • Firming of shoulders where skin is saggy
  • Skin relaxation

Other information

The technology that our centre utilizes is called Radial Shockwave Therapy. Radial waves are pressure waves that emanate outwards in a radial pattern. As the waves reach the tissue (ligaments and muscles), they enhance blood circulation, allowing for healing to be triggered.

  • naruší a rozpouští vápenaté usazeniny ve šlachách, úponech, burzách
  • zvyšuje metabolismus ošetřované tkáně prokrvením a zvýšením látkové výměny v postižené oblasti
  • aktivuje buňky produkující kolagen a další bílkoviny (jizvy, strie, pevnost pokožky u léčby celulitidy)
  • redukuje svalového napětí
  • snížuje napětí v měkkých tkáních
  • stimuluje protizánětlivý proces
  • má analgetický efekt (s ústupem bolestí se výrazně zlepšuje pohyblivost)
  • postupnou aplikací snižuje úponové bolesti
  • zvyšuje tvorbu kostní tkáně

You will normally need 3-10 sessions with 1-5 days (with acute conditions) or 7-14 days (with chronic conditions). One session lasts 10-15 minutes. One area is treated at a time. After the application, the patient should take it easy for 2 days and avoid strenuous activities that caused the problems.

There might be redness in the treated area and patients may experience some pain. In rare cases a hematoma can form. The side effects normally go away in 2 to 10 days

Shockwave therapy should be avoided in individuals who include:

  • individuals with blood clotting disorder (haemophilia)
  • patients on anticoagulant therapy
  • patients with acute cancerous tumours, patients who have been x-rayed
  • pregnant women, young children while they still grow
  • patients who have scars and bruises that have not fully healed
  • patients who have thrombosis
